Meet The Team

Here we are almost through the majority of 2022 (crazy thought), I hope everyone feels as confused by that as I do but nevertheless each year keeps going quicker & quicker. I do believe that’s due to schedules filling & perhaps distractions introduced but I also hope it’s because we’re choosing to live each moment presently & openly whilst saying yes to new opportunities.

Since we are approaching the end of the year I thought it’d be fitting to have a little reintroduction to our team that we have here at The Studio Upstairs. I have asked our talented team to answer a few random questions which are included below. I hope you enjoy & love reading a little bit more about the beautiful people that work here (I certainly did).

OUR TEAM

JESS

What & where was your first ever job?

I used to sell T-shirts at a race track in the merchandising stand because my dad used to race cars. I also used to work at Baskin Robbins but got fired because I ate too much ice-cream.

Favourite style/colour moment you’ve created.

I just love creating colours that last. I love seeing my clients in 4 months time and their hair still looks beautiful, truly makes me so happy.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a busy day of work?

Go pat my ponies or my dog.

Favourite snack to have.

I do love almond croissants but also blueberries from the Palm Beach markets, so sweet.

Favourite place you have ever travelled to + somewhere you still want to go.

My last overseas holiday was to Sri Lanka, that would be my favourite so far. I would also love to go to Iceland because you can ride a horse amongst a herd of them across the country which I think would be pretty magical.

How many years have you been hairdressing & one thing you love about it.

16-17years and I am incredibly grateful everyday that I have such a beautiful team that I work with. I also just love making people feel beautiful. Truly such a special feeling to be able to give.

DANAE

What & where was your first ever job?

My first ever job was at 14 I was a ‘spice girl’ for kids parties… I wanted to be sporty spice but because I had short brown hair they made me be posh spice - I did one kids party where we danced and mimed then quit.

Favourite style/colour moment you’ve created.

Favourite styling moment… not sure, this can be a week to week thing. I’ve been a finalist or runner up for hair awards which is gratifying for sure but honestly it’s when I can think something can work and finally I get it and it does…

What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a busy day of work?

What I do after a busy day… I give my beautiful dogs a cuddle and kiss my husband hello then take my bra off and get into comfy clothes, maybe pour myself a glass of wine

Favourite snack to have.

Dark chocolate is my fave snack

Favourite place you have ever travelled to + somewhere you still want to go.

Mexico is one of my favourite places I’ve travelled but I have so many and many more to come… my mum is from Greece and I definitely have a connection. NYC is one of my all times and Canada because I used to live there… but Japan is highest on my priority list of places to go!

How many years have you been hairdressing & one thing you love about it.

I’ve been hairdressing over 21 years now. I love being able to be creative and use my hands… but most of all, the difference you can make to someone’s life within a couple of hours does it for me. And the true connections you can have with people.

TORIE

What & where was your first ever job?

McDonald’s lol being the first ‘ever’ job at the Sydney domestic airport and boy was she busy

Favourite style/colour moment you’ve created.

Hm this is a tough one, i just love how no two colours are the same, but my all time favourite colours is the bright, poppy, lived in colours that leave you a little bit breathless.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a busy day of work?

Walk in the door, put my bags down and head straight to the lounge and sit there for a good few minutes to let the day go and enjoy the silence 😂

Favourite snack to have.

Can a ham and cheese toastie classify under a snack? Haha

Favourite place you have ever travelled to + somewhere you still want to go.

Fav place would probably have to be Austria, skiing in the mountains there was next level.

And I would love to boogie my way to Ibiza, so that’s next on the cards.

How many years have you been hairdressing & one thing you love about it.

Hairdressing for just over 10 years now and as cliche as it sounds I just love meeting all different types of people, from all walks of life. And then you get to watch your clients go through life and be with them, like when they meet a nice boy, get married have kids, it’s just a pretty amazing experience to be apart of.

MICHAEL

What & where was your first ever job?

First ever job was at a fish and chip shop. I asked my mum for the latest back pack long story short the answer was no (being the eldest of 6, i understand now) so I stormed out of the house and to the Main Street. Then proceeded to ask every little store if they needed a worker, I ended up at a fish and shop where I went in twice a week and restocked the drinks fridge and broke up the boxes, needles to say i had the back pack in a matter of 2 weeks.

Favourite style/colour moment you’ve created.

Honestly that moment for me was not the colour and style it was the confidence, the moment it all clicked the first time I did a full service and didn’t hesitate about anything but admire the gorgeous shiny colour and bouncy cut and blow dry I did with out breaking a sweat.

What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a busy day of work?

Literally make my way straight to my office and open my computer and get back into my.vie.

Favourite snack to have.

Snack hahaha idk about snacks I’m more of a meal guy and as many as I can have a day. Ask any of the girls, 3 square meals minimum at work for me.

Favourite place you have ever travelled to + somewhere you still want to go.

Picking one place is impossible after living and working around the world but Croatia and Norway have some pretty extra special memories attached to them, still saving Greece for my honeymoon says the single guy.

How many years have you been hairdressing & one thing you love about it.

15 years and love it just as much as the first day. I can definitely say I’ll be that old man kissing his clients on the cheek and checking them out, still doing hair till the day I die.

My first ever hairdressing job was at a little salon in the town I grew up in in Yamba, Pure shine hair. But my first ever job was when I was 13 at a tiny cafe, where I prepped food before school and made milkshakes xx

Favourite style/colour moment you’ve created.

Its so hard to think back and choose my favourite moment Ive created over the years, but being apart of all the weddings over the years has got to be up there with the most rewarding, creative, special and fun parts of my job! So lucky xx

What’s the first thing you do when you get home after a busy day of work?

The first thing I do when I get home is jump straight in the shower, no better feeling then cleansing my makeup off and putting on all my lovely little skin products, makes me so happy!

My favourite place I’ve travelled too at this stage of my life would have to be Bali, there’s something so magical about the place. I have lots of places I think I want to go to but being on holidays anywhere is always exciting!

How many years have you been hairdressing & one thing you love about it.

I have been hairdressing for 12 years now. It’s honestly the best job! I get to talk all day to my beautiful clients that I have made over the years, and while we catch up on everything that’s happened in between visits I get to be creative and make them feel fresh and wonderful, there really isn’t much better feeling then fresh hair!
